CVS-I kits include the components needed to install your new central vacuum in one specially designed kit. The CVS-I install kit includes intrasystem fittings, inlet components and install accessories. All CVS-I install kits use the finest available ASTM 2158 compliant materials from the industry's best manufacturers including Plastiflex, Hayden, Vaculine, Beldin, Panduit and Jabat.

IAPMO R&T UMC COMPLIANTAll intrasystem fittings and 2" CVS-PVC tube used in CVS-I install kits are IAPMO UMC compliant and all wire and cable ties are UL approved. Every CVS-I Do-It-Yourself central vacuum install kit comes with install manuals and video on CD that can be viewed on your PC or printed for easy reference along with additional instructional materials and product video. And for safe delivery CVS-I install kits include professional packaging for both the fittings and tube, using custom packaging that protects the pipe ends from chipping and damage in transit.

Standardized, Interchangeable & Expandable
Kits are available for various recommended installation sizes from 900 sqft. to 6000 sqft. CVS-I Kits are rated for size by the number of valves and pipe included. All install kits are able to inter-operate with any other CVS-I install kit sold by Vacdepot. Multiple kits may be added together to achieve the materials needed to cover a larger installation. All square foot ratings are estimates based on the amount of pipe and the number of inlets included, some installations may need more or less than the normal amount of materials due to the layout of the home or special needs - please call us if you would like to discuss your plans.

Metal and Plastic Inlets of all colors Choose Your Valve Color & Style
Each CVS-I Universal install kit is available in your choice of rectangular or square door inlets, plastic round door inlets, metal round door inlets or the Innovation deco door inlets in a wide variety of colors. Most popular are the rectangular full door inlets that offer a finished look that is similar to wall switches and electrical outlets. The standard inlet plastic door is also available with traditional "round door" to match older inlets. Metal Door inlets are a good choice for high service or floor mounted inlets and adds a bit of durability to the inlet. The Innovation inlet doors offer high quality and a unique style in colors to match most any decor from classic white to the metallized Champagne.

The Universal Inlet type does include integrated low-voltage connectors that will control your central vacuum power unit with the hose. The Universal Inlet is used most often in homes of mostly hard flooring where multi-floor or turbo cleaning attachments will be used. Universal inlet can also installed in homes with carpeting when used in conjunction with dual-voltage corded connect or pig-tail power brush attachments kits. This arrangement lets you use an electrically powered brush by plugging a hose cord into any outlet nearby the Universal inlet. Universal Inlets with powered brush applications are used most often in retro-fit (pre-existing home) installations. If your new-construction home will contain large areas of wall-to-wall carpeting that you will clean with a powered brush system you should consider the even more convenient to use Direct Connect inlet style, also called a SuperValve or "one step" inlet. Every component used in our CVS-I kits from CVS-PVC tube, to low volt wire and PVC cement are the same high quality components as used by our professional installers at The Central Vacuum Depot, Dallas/Fort Worth.

Which Kit Do You Need?
CVS-I Kits differ in feet of tube per inlet. Most often the more inlets you install the less pipe you will use per inlet, with the average about 20 feet of tube per inlet. Each inlet will cover an estimated 500 - 700 sqft of floor space when using a 30-foot hose. While most installations will need just one kit, some others may do better by mixing two kits to achieve the number of valves and length of tube you need. Be sure to add additional tube if you have a long run to your power unit, want to add an exterior exhaust or want to add a vacpan sweep inlet. It is almost impossible to have too many inlets, but having too few can defeat the entire convenience of using your new central vacuum system. Be sure to read our CVS Install FAQ for some helpful hints before you order, or just give us a call for a quick free consultation.

Included Parts Defined

Central Vacuum Inlet Door Inlet Door (wall inlet, wall valve)
The inlet door is the finishing plate that acts as a valve where your cleaning hose is inserted into the vacuum tubing system. The inlet door is opened to insert the hose and also holds the low volt contacts to activate the remote suction motor. All modern inlets doors have 1.5" ID openings with two low voltage contacts inside the opening. Vacdepot install kits include the attractive Plastiflex R-VEX full door rectangular inlet in white, almond or black colors as standard. Also available is the S-VEX Square Door inlet in white or almond, the popular choice in European homes. Another standard option is the Round Door inlet in white or almond, the traditional style used in central vacuum systems for many years. Any all metal round door optional upgrade is available for applications of high usage or floor mounting.

The new Cen-Tec Systems Innovation Inlet optional upgrade is available in all Vacdepot universal installation kits. This decorators inlet offers a modern look with a sleek shape that melts into the wall surface. The Innovation inlets use a unique hidden spring design that allows mounting the door in an open up or open down orientation with a wide open 160° door for easy hose alignment. Innovation inlets are available in four gloss moulded colors; White, Ivory (more similar to Bisque color), Black and Grey. Two painted color inlets are available, Silver and Anthracite. Both with a durable finish, silver in a smooth coating and the Anthracite in a a spec finish similar to natural stone. The Innovation Champagne inlet is a metalized color in tainted chrome which looks similar to a polished stainless steel finish. Each inlet can cover an estimated 500 - 700 sqft when used with a 30ft hose, depending on the floor plan.

Central Vacuum mounting bracket Mounting Plate (inlet mounting bracket, backplate)
The mounting plate is attached to a framing stud behind the drywall in new construction by use of its nailing fin with screws. The mounting plate serves as the connector between the inlet door and the vacuum tubing system. The mounting plate accepts a fitting in the back (usually a short elbow described below) and has a o-ring seal opening in the front.

The o-ring opening lets you attach the inlet door to the front of the mounting plate with screws instead of glue so that the inlet door may be removed in the future much like a switch cover. In retro fit (pre-existing homes) the nailing fin is removed from the mounting plate and the inlet door is screwed to the mounting plate that sandwiches the drywall to hold the system in place. The VEX mounting plate (shown) is used for all standard and metal door installation kits. The Vaculine 5566 mounting plate is used for all Innovation inlet kits.

Central Vacuum PVC tubing 2" PVC Vacuum Tubing (ASTM-F2158 / UMC)
Central Vacuum Systems use a specially designed and specially sized pipe to carry air and debris to the power unit, which is also the collection system that is remotely mounted usually in an attached garage, basement or utility room. CVS-PVC is sized differently than waste or water pipe at 2 inches outer diameter. This prevents someone from accidentally using the wrong pipe, and more importantly insures you achieve the correct airflow without clogging.

CVS-PVC is an extruded pipe much like regular PVC with a special smooth bore interior. IAPMO certified ASTM-F2158 CVS-PVC is currently available from only two manufactures including Vacdepot's PVC extruder, Jabat Inc. All Vacdepot Vacuum tubing is sold in 4'11" (59 total inches) sections referred to nominally as a "5 foot stick". Our new 5' sticks are easy to handle, easy to transport and easy to use on the job in attics, service paths, crawl spaces and other tight areas.

Central Vacuum Low Volt wire 18/2 Power Limited (low volt) UL Approved Wire
The low volt wire in a central vacuum system is used to signal the power unit (suction motor) from the wall inlet. Only Vacdepot offers thicker 18 gauge 2 conductor wire as standard in CVS installation kits. Our CV wire is UL approved for power-limited applications including central vacuum signaling. Our wire is rolled for easy dispensing and the stronger 18 gauge makes for easy pulling. In most installations the signal wire is run next to the pipe system to enable easy inspection of the signal wire. Wire lengths can be spliced with wire nuts or crimps and electric tape.

Central Vacuum PVC cement PVC Cement
Vacuflo All-Weather, IPS Weld-On PVC710 or equivalent. Clear PVC Cement is a regular-bodied and fast setting PVC for all classes of 2-inch PVC tube. Comes in four ounces metal cans with applicator attached to the lid. One 4 ounce can will cover most applications up to 200 linear feet of pipe and 10 inlets.

CVS-PVC cementing tip - apply glue to the male side of the connection (pipe or spigot), not the inside of a fitting where it may build up and degrade airflow. Always use fast-set cement for vacuum systems.

Central Vacuum PVC fitting 45° Elbow (ASTM-F2158 / UMC)
The CV5517W 45 degree elbow of white PVC. Makes pipe connections at standard 45 degree angle, safe for intrasystem use (in-wall and attic locations). Also useful for constructing other fittings. Full depth SOCKET type connection on both ends for direct pipe connection. Also available, part CV5519W specialty fitting is a 30° elbow for angles also used commonly in home construction.

Central Vacuum PVC fitting 90° Sweep Elbow (ASTM-F2158 / UMC)
The CV5510W 90 degree sweep elbow of white PVC. Makes pipe connections at standard 90 degree angle, safe for intrasystem use (in-wall and attic locations). The sweep elbow makes long radius turns to maintain airflow and prevent blockage intra-system. Full depth SOCKET type connection on both ends for direct pipe connection.

Central Vacuum PVC fitting 90° Sweep Tee (ASTM-F2158 / UMC)
The CV5501W 90 degree sweep tee of white PVC. Provides a 90 degree Tee (3 connection) fitting that is swept into the fitting for safe use intra-system. Sweep Tee's are used most often in branch lines to connect a drop or rise into the main trunk. Full depth SOCKET type connection on both ends for direct pipe connection.

Central Vacuum PVC fitting Stop Coupling (ASTM-F2158 / UMC)
The CV5529W stop coupling of white PVC. CVS pipe fitting which joins two pipes together continuously. Used to create straight pipe runs. Has a center stop to ensure both pipe ends get equal glue surface. Full depth SOCKET type connection on both ends for direct pipe connection.

Central Vacuum PVC fitting Spigot Adapter (ASTM-F2158 / UMC)
The CV5527G spigot adapter of gray or white PVC. A convenience fitting that lets you join two SOCKET type fittings together to create a custom fitting. Spigot adapters work much like a short piece of pipe that is used to connect two fittings together. Spigot adapters convert any SOCKET type fitting, safe for intra-system use. Full depth SPIGOT type connection on both ends for direct connection to fittings.

Central Vacuum PVC fitting 90° Short Elbow (ASTM-F2158 / UMC)
The CV5506W 90 degree short ell of white PVC. Short and compact size is designed to be used for connecting the mounting plate of an inlet to a drop or rise. The short, tight turn of this elbow is designed to fit within a 2X4 stud wall, and also works to prevent long objects from entering the tube system. You should not use short elbows intrasystem because its tighter radius. Full depth SOCKET type connection on both ends for direct pipe/direct mount plate connection.

Central Vacuum PVC fitting Pipe Strap
The CV5545W pipe strap of white PVC. For mounting and pipe support the CV5545W fits over pipe and screws to a stud. CVS pipe should be secured every 4 feet in most nstallations.

Central Vacuum PVC fitting 11" Cable Ties UL Approved
From Leco, Panduit or equivalent the 11 inch cable tie is perfect for securing your low volt wire run to your 2" tubing system. Excellent for areas when pipe is running against studs and the low volt wire cannot be taped. Easy to use "zip-tie" cable fastener is UV stabilized.

Central Vacuum PVC fitting Vacdepot Installation & Products Information CD-ROM (Manuals & Video)
Available exclusively from Vacdepot, this installation CD-ROM includes multiple brands general installation manuals that cover both new and pre-existing installations, a 17 minute installation video in both windows media and mpeg file formats and product specific manuals including Vacpan, Supervalve and Hide-A-Hose instruction sheets. All instructions and manuals are printable from the CD-ROM for use while you're installing. Our installation CD-ROM also includes product information and manuals from Hoover, Beam, Wessel-Werk and more including product videos. An all-inclusive resource that covers every part of a central vacuum installation from novice to experienced do-it-yourselfer.

What's Not Included?
You will need a basic set of tools including a 2.25 - 2.5 inch diameter auger type (preferred) or hole-saw type drill bit. A right angle drill is great if you have it, but not necessary in most installs. Common methods for cutting pipe include miter saw or miter box, any method for making straight cuts - just be sure to always debur your pipe cuts. Other components commonly used in CV installations are standard electrical tape for any low volt splices you may want to make and nail guards. Nail guards are attached to headers or footers where pipe enters a wall. Nail guards prevent others from puncturing your tube system (usually drywall installers). Nail guards are used only in new construction and are available at any hardware store for about $.30 cents each.

CVS-I install kits also do not include a muffler, exhaust vent or any of the optional exhaust finish-out. Many CVS power units now include an exhaust muffler, check your model before you purchase an extra. The optional exhaust outlet (vent) Vaculine item CV5540W is available in the accessories section. Exhausting your CVS is a good idea when possible, but optional.

Vacdepot packs our CVS-I installation kits with the industry's very best quality components, our comprehensive install CD and our decades of CVS experience. Our commitment does not end when the kit is delivered. Vacdepot CV installers are always available to help by phone or email with your questions. Purchasing a CVS-I install kit means you will receive the best components and service in central cleaning systems.
