The CT20DXQS Quiet Drive Power brush
Like all great central vacuum attachment sets the QDSP (Quiet Drive Sensor Plus) group of tools is formulated around a high performance electrically powered brush for carpet cleaning. The CT20DXQS represents the cumulative refinement of all Cen-Tec power brushes before its time and includes many advances only found in the CT20X series nozzle. Built from a solid base that innovated the vacuum power brush the CT20DXQS offers features that help you clean quicker and deeper than ever before. One revolutionary feature of the CT20DXQS is the Quiet Drive belt system.

Recognizing years ago that to offer consistent cleaning performance a vacuum's spinning brush needed a better power transfer from the motor to the floor than the usual stretch-on rubber belt. The old style rubber belt was useful at slower speeds and offered protection for the system if a large object was inadvertently pulled into the spinning brush. Most everyone knows the dread of a burning rubber smell while vacuuming followed by the "pop" sound of your vacuum's belt breaking. This was often followed by a fruitless search through the closet for a spare belt before you had to drive to your local vacuum repair shop to guess at which belt would correctly fit your model of vacuum. This would invariably lead to the time honored struggle between man and machine to install the new belt.

The consumers dissatisfaction with old style rubber belts led to the innovation of the geared or cogged belt that provides a tensionless drive system that is not subject to breakage or stretching. The superior design of the cogged belt also gives a power brush increased performance with high speed drive systems that were not possible with flat rubber belts. Less time spent replacing worn or broken belts gives you more time cleaning without interruption. While many manufacturers soon outfitted their power brush with the cogged belt/ motor geared design Cen-Tec took the opportunity to advance the drive system even further.

The CT20DXQS is the first power brush to incorporate the ribbed belt design from the automotive industry using a kevlar reinforced drive belt. The single length ribbed belt does not require the stored tension of rubber stretch-on belts and offers more surface contact than the toothed belt.

The ribbed belt design also imparted a new quality to the Cen-Tec power brush for which it soon became known, the Quiet Drive. With the cogs and gears eliminated from the drive system the intermittent chatter noise of drive surfaces continually engaging and disengaging was eliminated resulting in a much quieter transfer of power from motor to brush. A power brush that is quiet with increased gripping power, the CT20DXQS is a noticeably better brush.

The engineers at Cen-Tec also recognized the importance of an all bristle roller with a wood core that will not warp. Fighting pressure from the sales-driven production side of the business who want to claim marketing points with a less reliable hollow core metal roller, Cen-Tec instead sided with the service and repair side of the industry. While a Metal Brush Roller sounds like a better component, service technicians will always point out that they often fail quickly when hit by a hard object or become out of round and out of balance. An unbalanced roller that could be spinning at thousands of rotations per minute suffers from uncontrollable vibration that can ultimately damage the rollers bearings, end caps and even the vacuum nozzle's chassis leading to costly repairs. Hollow metal core rollers are used in only a few vacuums these days, replaced by natural (solid wood core) or synthetic (solid plastic core) rollers that are high speed balanced for use with tensionless drives and designed to last years with little maintenance.

The CT20DXQS's brush roller features a double row of synthetic bristle in an auger arrangement that brings brushed debris to the center mounted suction intake. The roller is suspended within the nozzle's chassis by two permanently lubricated and sealed ball bearings. The bearings are connected to the chassis by the roller's molded end caps which are made from a high strength compound that resist heat and wear. While the bearings are operating in the "dirty side" of the vacuum's nozzle where dirt, dust, hair, lint and other debris are constantly moving from the carpet into the vacuum system, they are protected by a permanently mounted felt disc . Sealed away from the debris the brush roll bearings operates in a filtered environment provided by the felt protectors.

The CT20DXQS hood and chassis are made from rugged ABS+TPE plastics that are designed to protect the internal components and provide a stable mounting base. The nozzle's hood portion uses overmolded thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) to form the protective bumper that is permanently connected to the cover. The protective bumper is non-marring and protects both the vacuum nozzle and your furniture from damage when banged together while cleaning. The nozzle's rear wheels are also overmolded in the soft TPE compound to prevent scratches on wood or other soft flooring while cleaning.

The CT20 series nozzle is 14" wide for effective cleaning of large rooms and the all bristle brush roller features edge groomers on both sides with an indented belt channel that lets the bristles clean as close as possible to the edge on both sides which allows cleaning in all directions. The small airflow gaps in the front of the nozzle keep the air moving through the system that is critical for performance on carpeting of all types, particularly the thicker plush fibers. The CT20DXQS also features a step on height adjustment to ensure compatibility with all carpet types. While most other nozzles have moved to the less accurate "auto height adjustment" design, the CT20 continues to offer an adjustable nozzle with four fully independent settings. The height adjustment is another time saving feature that allows one tool to do the work of many.

Height adjustment is achieved by raising and lowering the front wheel set of the power brush which has two exceptionally wide 2" rollers. The front rollers ride on a steel axel and support the power brush on even the thickest of plush carpets where other power nozzles may ineffectively sink into the fibers. The wider rollers prevent the vacuum's suction from sealing the nozzle against the floor making it very hard to push. The back of the powerbrush holds a second foot pedal which locks the handle into the upright position for storage or parking.

At the heart of the CT20DXQS power brush is a high power 2.4 amp universal motor. With up to 30% more power than other nozzles the CT20 runs quietly with an internally fan cooled motor system that is wrapped in noise insulating foam. The higher power motor drives the brush at a faster speed that lets you clean faster in a one-pass cleaning method instead of the slower "fan pattern" cleaning method. Cooling air is drawn in from the back of the power brush away from dirt and dust and then pulled over the entire system before being pushed out of the nozzle. Like all great quality power brushes the CT20DXQS is controlled by a compact circuit with resettable breaker protection.

The control board checks the motor thousands of times per minute to evaluate load and voltage and should a problem occur such as a dish towel being pulled into the brush, the nozzle will activate the breaker and shut off the motor before damage can occur. After clearing the obstruction you need only push the top mounted reset button and continue cleaning. Also mounted on the top of the nozzle within easy visual reach is a window which shows the nozzle's current height indicated by "XLO, LO, MED or HI". The front of the nozzle also has a low profile headlight lens (only 2.75" at its highest point) that focuses the light just forward of the nozzle for cleaning in low light areas. The top of the nozzle also features another window with a row of LED signals. This window looks into the mystical Dirt Sensor system, a Cen-Tec Systems power brush exclusive.

The Ultimate Time Saver
The Quiet Drive Dirt Sensor is a unique feature not found on any other central vacuum power brush. The system works by using a specially tuned audio sensor that listens to dirt and debris in all sizes being beaten, swept and pulled by vacuum, passing through the throat of the CT20DXQS power brush. The Dirt Sensor passes this information to the user by use of red and green LED lights on top of the brush that are easy to read and understand.

RED lights mean the vacuum is actively recovering debris, GREEN signals the nozzle has cleaned all debris from the area. While the system can claim value in letting you know that your carpet is clean of even unseen soils, it is even more valuable in promoting efficiency while you vacuum. Giving you the green light to move on keeps you from spending time in areas that are already clean and allows you to focus more on areas of high traffic and embedded soils. The power brush mounted dirt sensor is a tool that extends the efficiency of your vacuum system, letting you do more in less time.

The connection of power brush to vacuum system is an area of constant improvement and the QDSP attachment group received an innovative upgrade in 2008. The swivel connector (often referred to as the power nozzle's neck) of the CT20 reclines from its upright locked position a full 90° to allow for steering of the nozzle. 30° rotation was added which lets you turn the grip and torque the nozzle direction left or right. A large and easy to use foot operated pedal gives the CT20 one of its two quick disconnects. By stepping on the release pedal and pulling the wand both suction and electrical connections are disconnected and the vacuum system's wand is ready to take on other tools. This lower wand quick disconnect is a later feature found in better quality power brushes that adds convenience and saves you time when moving from power brush to hard floor tool or above floor cleaning.

The QDSP's new telescopic power wand is a stunning leap forward in both quality and design. Unlike older central vacuum attachment kits that use external wires to connect the power brush to the grip, the new integrated power wand (i-Wand) from Cen-Tec features an entirely concealed power transmission from top to bottom. The new i-Wand system developed exclusively for Cen-Tec Systems is unlike any other powered wand available anywhere and uses solid rods to move power from the grip to the nozzle instead of flexing cables, wires or ribbons. Made from chromed steel the new i-Wand is one of the most sturdy we have seen in integrated wands. Power plugs at both ends are housed in sleek connectors that mate perfectly with both powerbrush and hose. Extension and retraction of the i-Wand exposes the full length power rod channel. The new wand operates reliably with the quality full ratchet mechanism from OMEC. Both the power i-Wand and the secondary telescopic aluminum wand included in the QDSP kit are manufacturer by OMEC of Italy who is world renowned for quality and dependability. All Cen-Tec locking wands also include another handy time saving feature that prevents many sore thumbs and fingers; the ButtonDown tab at the top gives you a large flat key that is easy to depress when disconnecting the wand from hose.

The top of the wand connects to the vacuum's hose and features the second quick disconnect of the system. By using the ButtonDown lock release both the electric and suction connections are easily disengaged without the normal tangle of wires, plugs and sockets. The new 3200SG series 4-wire (dual volt) hose features a recessed plug connector that mates with the power i-Wand and centers the plug before contact is made; this protects the connector from damage caused by misalignment. A premium dual volt central vacuum hose, the new 3200SG hose incorporates many features that give you both durability and efficiency. The patented crush-proof hose body has been reformulated from previous models to triple hose life, improve crush recovery and make coiling for storage easier. The full 1 3/8" inner diameter insures excellent airflow performance, even in longer lengths, which passes the cleaning airflow of newer high performance central vacuum power units directly to the surface being cleaned.

The patented 3200SG handle was designed with weight, balance and comfort in mind. The size was scaled to minimize weight in a shape that permits control of the hose and cleaning tools with less effort and less wrist strain. The newest 3200 hose included with QDSP attachment kits also includes the TPE Soft Grip feature. With the entire grip covered in the soft grip treatment the new hose provides a more comfortable grip and added control. The matte finish Soft Grip covering aids in non-slip control that requires less grip pressure to maneuver and provides a non-marring, fingerprint and scratch resistant surface.

Along with the Soft Grip surface the open grip design and soft curves maximize comfort and control. The ergonomic grip naturally positions your hand perfectly and adds to your ability to control your cleaning tool. The 3200SG handle was also designed to balance the weight in your hand to minimize your work load. By extending the grip surface, the 3200SG handle accommodates all users without bulking up the diameter of the handle so comfort and control feel right in all cleaning situations.

The total control 3 position switch is recessed in location for easy access during cleaning and allows you to control both the vacuum's suction motor and suction with power brush. The chromed steel tool mounting stub features the industry standard 1.25" tapered connection with a button lock for positive connection to a power wand. The tool stub also gives you an air control valve that can be used to relieve full suction from the cleaning tool which allows you to vacuum delicate items such as drapes without fighting the full vacuum airflow.

The crush-proof hose body enters the handle with assistance of a built-in strain relief. Designed to protect the hose from kinking or breakage at the high stress transfer area of flexible hose to rigid handle. The addition of a strain relief to the 3200SG's handle design puts the hose at a shallow arc while cleaning which reduces resistance from the hose and protects from sharp bends and kinking. The full swivel 360° connection lets the hose turn and untwist while cleaning which prevents kinking and loss of suction. The unique hose strain relief coupled with the full swivel connection permits continuous airflow that delivers performance that saves you time by allowing you to focus on the cleaning task and not the cleaning tools.

Thanks to the larger 1 3/8" inside diameter design you can achieve up to 20% better performance than older 1.25" hoses of the same length. The 3200SG hose is also available in a longer 35 foot version, the longest permitted by UL for a dual-volt (powered) hose. The 3200SG hose includes a wall end that is compatible with either direct connect (CVA72-DC) or universal inlet (CVA72-PT) valves from all current standard and most older inlet valves that follow the industry standard 1.5" format. The tapered cuff fits snugly into the wall valve and the large chromed steel low voltage connector plates insure the correct contact and alignment with the low voltage portion of the wall inlet valve.

The Direct Connect configuration features a forward facing two pin male plug that is designed to work with all brands and models of direct connect valves on the market including the Hayden brand Super Valve, Vaculine brand ElectraValve and the various OEM branded valves from all central vacuum manufacturers including Beam, Nutone, M&S AirVac, Vacuflo and others. The Direct Connect valve, also called a powered-valve, SuperValve or dual-volt inlet is both a design and a specification standard that allows all Direct Connect hose ends to fit all Direct Connect wall inlets, regardless of brand.

If replacing an attachment set that uses a power cord at the inlet to get power down the hose then you will need the Universal model, CVA72-PT. Direct Connect hoses will only work with DC inlets. The CVA72-PT model uses a pig-tail cord for high voltage power (for use with low-volt valves) which allows the CVA72-PT universal model to fit most existing wall plates in use today. Exception to fit for the CVA72-PT are some older valves from Kenmore and Black & Decker that used a 1.25" connector and special VACUFLO brand valves that used a proprietary connector. If your inlet does not seem to be the standard 1.5" type used in most homes over the last 25+ years give us a call for the correct hose solution.

As the 3200SG hose provides a flexible extension from your vacuum system to the areas that need cleaning, the systems extension wands provide rigid extension for both floor cleaning and overhead, above floor cleaning. The OMEC telescopic powerbrush i-Wand can be used with all attachments included with the QDSP kit. A second OMEC telescopic all aluminum wand is also provided for hard floor and above floor cleaning. Ultra lightweight at just 10 ounces, less than half the weight of two conventional steel wands, making it great for zipping through the house while cleaning hard floors.

The telescopic (ratcheting extension) wand is a standard 32mm (1.25" fitting) with buttonDown latching top, a durable black finish and adjusts fully from 22 inches to 39 inches in 1 inch increments. The ratcheting mechanism is a positive ratchet giving a firmer lock into the desired height allowing the tool to be resized on the fly for the user. The latching system is internally sealed from the dirt control tube for perfect air-flow with no catches and the wand extension action is very smooth and easy to operate. Imagine cleaning stairs with a compressed wand that does not require you to hold your arm up to vacuum - less fatigue and much safer.

The top of the wand features the Cen-Tec patented ButtonDown locking control that provides a positive connection to any button lock hose. The large key (marked "push") makes it easy for everyone to manipulate the lock system. The QDSP attachment kit includes two more wands (bringing the total to 3 sets!) made of lightweight ABS for utility cleaning. Each wand is 20" in length and also features a standard 32mm friction fit to inter-operate with every other attachment in the group, including the two telescopic wands.

Now you can add all three wand sets together and easily clean the crown molding in a room with 14-foot ceilings. The black ABS wands can be used in any combination directly on the hose grip to give you just the right reach for cleaning your car, sofa or under the refrigerator with the extra long crevice tool. Just like the CT20DXQS power brush and the 3200SG premium hose, it is the attachments that get the cleaning done and make using a central vacuum system a pleasure. When it comes to hard floors the QDSP attachment group includes the best true hard floor brush. The Cen-Tec FT-855 natural bristle wide path 14 inch cleaning brush is made in the USA. The FT-855 floor tool exceeds the standard floor brush used in most generic central vacuum kits, particularly for uneven floor surfaces or homes with pets. With its unique castle cut design and soft vinyl cover the FT-855 lets you clean hard floors, ceilings and walls quickly and safely. The extra wide 14" cleaning path provides for 20% more coverage than standard vacuum kits' 12" brush. Letting you clean more floor with fewer strokes both reduces effort and saves you time

The FT-855 is a heavy-duty floor brush suitable for home or commercial use. The expansive working width provides excellent coverage in large areas and is also very maneuverable with a full swivel neck. The FT-855 has a full wrap of natural fill bristle brush strips front and back with vinyl outboard rollers and a soft vinyl outer cover that keeps the tool from scratching or marring wood or laminate floors. The large (50mm) center opening allows for optimal airflow when working with the higher power supplied by central vacuum systems without drag, seal-off or excessive noise. The brush set is detachable for easy cleaning in the sink or top rack of the dishwasher providing for years of trouble free use. The floor tool's connector is a standard friction fit for quick connection to either telescopic wand or for use with the ABS wand set.

800 Series Vacuum Attachments
The Cen-Tec 800 series vacuum tools are their best. Also available separately on the Vacdepot website the 800 series tools are a premium tool set that far out performs and out lasts the "value" quality tools included with most manufacturers CVS cleaning kits. In fact the 800 Series tools offer such good performance and reliability we also choose to include them with our custom commercial backpack vacuums used daily by maid services across the country cleaning homes and offices.

If you use your vacuum to clean above the floor or for other utility work, a dusting brush is often the tool you will use. Unfortunately the round dusting brush included with most vacuums has an inconvenient design and might have bristles that are too short or made of material that is inflexible, leaving dust behind on the surface being cleaned.

Cen-Tec Systems DB800 brush is unique and addresses many of the problems of regular dusting brushes. With an oblong shape instead of a round one the tool can reach many areas, particularly corners, where round tools can not clean. The flattened head also aids in getting the tool into tight spots where a round brush may just be too big across. The bristle set is the best natural fill that is dense and heavy. Long and flexible enough to provide the proper dusting action the bristles are held into the nozzle body with a shoe that is clamped onto the bristle and formed into the nozzle's shape. The entire bristle set can easily be removed from the nozzle case for cleaning or replacement. The DB800's soft vinyl case will clean furniture without damage and will not leave marks on painted surfaces like plastic tool cases. Inside the dusting brush is a bristle support that prevents the natural fill from folding into the tool, even with the high suction of central cleaning systems.

The UP800 deluxe vinyl upholstery tool included in the QDSP kit is 6" (152mm) wide with a scalloped bottom plate insert and a grooming brush. The shoe design insures continuous air-flow without the need for a suction reducer, eliminating "seal off". The brush strip gently engages upholstery to lift debris and groom surfaces.

The brush also helps to remove hair, pet fur, lint and other clingy soils that suction alone will not remove. The soft outer cover will not mar light colored furniture or scratch soft surfaces and the friction fitting connector will allow use directly at the end of the hose or with any wand extension.

Our unique CR800 crevice tool is 13" (330mm) long with flat profile and slots for those "hard-to-reach" corners and crevices where dust and debris can hide. Slots provide additional airflow along the cleaning surface underneath furniture and cabinets. Made of textured ABS plastic the crevice tool is strong enough to take abuse but also just a bit flexible to keep it from breaking.

Most often crevice tools are used for cleaning areas and objects never conceived of by the engineers, and are jammed into, next to, under and between anything and everything. Realizing long ago that crevice tools are used often, and often abused, the crevice tool was redesigned to stand up to rigorous use. The extra length of the crevice nozzle, a full 13 inches, helps you to continue jamming, pushing and prying the crevice tool wherever you need to clean.

All attachments in the QDSP kit are multifunction and can perform many more cleaning tasks than outlined by their general descriptions. The three staple vacuum tools (dust brush, crevice tool and upholstery nozzle) are must have attachments in every vacuum kit, however the last century of domestic cleaning has revealed a need for some specialized cleaning tools that will yield additional efficiency when cleaning. The first on our list of bonus cleaning tools to be included with the QDSP attachment group is the Quiet Drive Turbo Brush. The Turbo Brush could just as easily be called the Time Saver Brush because the primary benefit of using a turbo hand brush is an increased cleaning speed. Used when cleaning many areas usually cleaned with the upholstery nozzle such as stair treads, upholstered furniture and auto interiors the turbo brush uses the vacuum's airstream and suction to drive a fan (turbine or turbo) which drives a spinning brush roller that is similar to the power brush carpet nozzle used on floors.

The Turbo Brush is compact in size and weighs only ounces instead of pounds. The turbine drive does not require electricity to operate which allows the tool to be used at the end of any hose or wand. As central vacuum system power units generally produce significantly more airflow than portable vacuum cleaners, the Quiet Drive turbo brush works particularly well in the QDSP attachment kit, agitating, brushing and sweeping dirt, dust and clingy debris into the vacuum system.

Agitation at the surface you are cleaning greatly increases the vacuum's ability to remove embedded particles from the carpet or upholstery. The Quiet Drive Turbine hand tool can increase your cleaning efficiency in these areas 2 to 5 times a standard tool's cleaning ability. The Turbo hand tool is most often considered an additional accessory priced at $30. - $50, or more. A must have attachment for both multi-level homes and also those with inside pets.

The second bonus tool is also used most often above floors on upholstery, bedding and auto interiors. The sofa tool offers wide directional lint pads to clean and groom upholstered furniture without the risk of damage from static or rotating bristles. Lint remover strips on both sides of the air channel easily remove lint, pet hair and stubborn clingy soils. The sofa tool give you the muscle you need in a vacuum tool to clean especially difficult types of coverings such as velour and micro-suede.

The Sofa Tool works by using a unique directional cleaning material. The cleaning pads groom and clean working in tandem with your vacuum's airflow. Each pad has a unique one-way removal system that lifts clingy lint and pet hair while pulling the nozzle, and releases the soil into the airstream when pushing the nozzle. The Dust-Up dry mop floor tool has quickly become the most desired add-on attachment of current central vacuum users. The concept was inspired by the rapid rate at which homes in the US are turning to more hard floor coverings and the need for proper care of hard surfaces of all types, the Dust-Up design remains popular for its effectiveness and quality despite many imitators. It's a "dry dust-mop" in a vacuum tool that captures and removes dust and small debris from all those hard to reach places. It features a cut-away front to let the dirt into the large nozzle orifice where the airflow can carry it away to the collection bin.

The dry mop head combined with suction of your vacuum system provides excellent cleaning results on hard floors of all types, particularly those that will also benefit from polish action of the mop fringe. Hardwood and honed/polished stone floors will show a brighter finish when cleaned over standard vacuuming with a brush, as will all smooth hard floors including tile, laminate and polished concrete. The Dust-Up mop head tool also cleans where no regular floor brush can. The blue fringe of the brush easily cleans against the baseboards pulling dust and debris down from above floor level and out from the corners.

When the mop head becomes laden with dirt and soil that is not pulled into the vacuum, cleaning the Dust-Up is easy. The fringed mop head can be removed from the vacuum nozzle by simply ripping the velcro mophead from the base and dropping it in the washer. An extra large hose hanger provides hose storage for the attachment group. Made of poly propylene the hose hanger provides plenty of space to keep your hose coiled up off the floor, preventing damage and extending hose life. Easy to mount to any wall with the included screws or with wall anchors, the hose hanger provides plenty of space for the hose and will also easily accommodate the longer 35 foot optional hoses. Keeping your hose coiled and off the floor will greatly extend its cleaning life and help to keep it flexible for many years.
